Alan Silvester is a British artist working with analogue photography and long exposure techniques. He uses a combination of ambient and fabricated lighting to create ethereal renderings of the landscape.

Silvester’s background in Urban Studies and Planning has informed his view of the British landscape. His interest in structural diversity is underpinned by a fascination with the hidden mechanisms at play. His work explores the idea of time perception, both in his image and subject.

Silvester’s current work, Excepted Land, is focussed on large scale systems isolated in restricted landscapes; nuclear power, communication and monitoring technologies, and power infrastructure.

He lives and works in the north of England.
